Grateful x 25

So I’d been planning (in my head) to write my next piece on gratitude – something that I think is highly important to practice, and essential to happiness. However, for whatever reason I couldn’t find the words to do it justice. So instead, while I put that idea on the backburner, and with the celebration of my quarter of a century on the planet looming, I thought instead I would write about twenty-five things that I’m grateful for. But, this is a post with a difference…
I’m grateful for my friends and family
wherever they may be;
as well as social media
for keeping them virtually close to me.
I’m grateful for wine and gin and rum
and chocolate and pizza too;
along with all the pineapple lumps
and those who post them through.
I always appreciate the sun rising up
whether spectacular or behind the scenes;
I love to watch the sun going down
and admire the colours that it beams.
I couldn’t be without de-icing spray
to help me on freezing mornings;
but I’ll never take windscreen wipers for granted
after I was without them during a stormy warning.
I’m grateful to the lecturer
who encouraged studying abroad;
and to all the destinations
I’ve since had the good fortune to explore.
I’m thankful for my phone reminders
that help me to never forget a thing;
and I’m forever indebted to the world of music
which brings me joy even though I can’t sing.
I try to never take for granted
the element of time;
but I do love getting lost in a good book
that has me hooked from line to line.
I’m grateful to my beautician
in the name of vanity;
and without my many tubs of lip balm
I’d likely lose my sanity.
I appreciate those who challenge me
intentionally or not;
and “when in Rome” (well Britain actually),
a cup of tea always hits the spot.
Finally I’m grateful for my roommate
he’s truly the best there could be;
and I’m thankful for you who is reading this
your time means the world to me.

That's all for now,
